certified Master Dog Trainer

John Knight is a certified Master Dog Trainer with over 18 years of experience and has successfully trained more than 6,000 dogs.

As a Professional Member of the International Association of Canine Professionals, John has built a reputation as a top-tier Behavioral Canine Trainer in Southern California.

What sets John apart is his deep understanding of canine behavior and his ability to communicate effectively with dogs. He’s passionate about nurturing the human-canine bond and guiding families in developing more rewarding relationships with their dogs. Through personalized training, he empowers dog owners to become the leaders their dogs need, ensuring lasting behavioral improvements.

One of John’s greatest joys as a dog trainer is coaching individuals and families on how to create fulfilling, enjoyable relationships with their dogs. His approach focuses on teaching obedience commands so owners can continue to reinforce good behavior well beyond their training sessions. For John, the ultimate goal is a harmonious relationship where dogs listen to their owners, not just the trainer.

John is particularly committed to working with rescue dogs, finding immense satisfaction in helping rehabilitate and reintroduce them to a loving home. For him, seeing a rescued dog thrive is one of the most rewarding aspects of his work.

“I can teach your dog to sit, stay, and stop unwanted behaviors,” John says. “But what’s more important is that you’ll understand how the training works so you can maintain and build on the progress. It’s not just about teaching your dog—it’s about empowering you as the owner to continue the training long after our work together ends.”

When he’s not training dogs, John enjoys spending time in his organic vegetable garden, playing tennis, running with his rescue dog Cali, snowboarding, and exploring the culinary scene in San Diego. A self-proclaimed foodie, he’s always on the lookout for the next great taco shop, hamburger stand, restaurant or diner, though he’s equally at home cooking his own meals.

“I love living in San Diego for two reasons,” John says. “The weather and the people. With year-round sunshine, I get to enjoy tennis and the Coronado Beach, and just a few hours away are snow-covered mountains for snowboarding. The people here are warm, welcoming, and have made me feel right at home. My only regret is that I didn’t move here sooner.”
