John Knight has in the last 18 years successfully trained 6,000+ dogs and is a certified Master Dog Trainer. He is a Professional Member of the International Association of Canine Professionals. He has proven to be an excellent Behavioral Canine Therapist in Southern California.
Among John’s special talents that make him an exceptional trainer is his capacity to understand our canine friends and to communicate with them. He appreciates the critical nature of the human/canine relationship and understands how to manage that relationship in the most productive and goal-oriented way for both.
One of John’s biggest pleasures as a dog trainer is his role in coaching individuals and families on how to enhance the experiences they have in living with their dogs, helping make those experiences richer and more enjoyable. He loves teaching people about their dogs and how they learn, helping families enjoy them in new and exciting ways. Once he has coached an owner on training their specific dog, that dog will become a great family member.
John is especially dedicated to rescue animals. It brings him a profound joy to help an owner rehabilitate a rescue dog and return that dog to a happy state of playing and being a well-behaved member of the family.
"There is no doubt,” John says, “that I can get your dog to sit, stay, come, and stop jumping up or barking. The best part about the way I teach is that you will learn how the training process works so that you can continually teach your dog the most productive behaviors. As a result, it will be much easier for you to maintain your dog's new training and great manners. What's important is that your dog will learn to listen to YOU, not just your dog trainer. So, I’ll teach you what you need to know so that your dog obeys long after our lessons together have ended.”
In his spare time, John enjoys working in his organic vegetable garden, playing tennis, running with his rescue dog Cali, snowboarding, and enjoying life in San Diego. He is also a foodie, searching for that next new restaurant or eating at a favorite San Diego diner, hamburger stand, or taco shop when he’s not fixing interesting meals at home.
"My favorite part of living in San Diego,” John says, “is two parts: The weather and the people. Since it hardly ever rains, we can play tennis year-round and also enjoy beautiful Coronado Beach. Just over three hours from here are snow-covered mountains for snowboarding. The people I’ve met in San Diego have been gracious, delightful, and welcoming. My only regret is that I did not move here sooner."
